Authorities at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have stepped up efforts to locate a missing undergraduate, Dorcas Oseghale, four days after she was last seen.

Dorcas, a student of the Department of Chemistry with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was reported missing after leaving her hostel on Thursday, August 7, 2025, to buy food at the Students’ Village along Ede Road. Since then, all attempts to reach her have failed.

In a statement on Sunday, the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed that the case had been escalated to the Osun State Police Command to widen the search.

“On the 7th of August, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m., a report of a missing female student surfaced on a students’ social media platform. The university’s Security Unit immediately began monitoring conversations surrounding the case,” the statement noted.

By early evening, a group of students from the Department of Chemistry, accompanied by Dorcas’ roommate, formally lodged the report with campus security. University officers then joined them in presenting initial findings to the Nigerian Police.

Vice Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire commended the students for their swift action and appealed to the police and other agencies to deploy all necessary resources in the search.

He urged anyone with information on Dorcas’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.

The disappearance has sparked concern across campus, with friends and colleagues describing Dorcas as diligent, friendly, and deeply involved in departmental activities.
