In a tragic turn of events, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has passed away at the age of 67. Reports indicate that he breathed his last in Lagos on Wednesday, and sources reveal that he had been under the care of State House doctors as he could not be flown abroad for medical attention.

Despite efforts to secure dialysis machines for him, the governor succumbed to his health challenges in Lagos. Governor Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany but faced further health complications, prompting another medical leave recently.

President Bola Tinubu directed him to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during his absence. Aiyedatiwa has been serving as the acting governor in the governor’s stead.
