Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, has made significant progress in tackling corruption and recovering stolen funds, according to the Bursar, Dr Olarewaju Oyedeji.

The institution was blacklisted by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) due to the failure of a N400 million Amphitheater project in 2013.

Dr Oyedeji discovered that certain individuals had misappropriated the funds meant for the project, leading to the school’s blacklisting.

He instituted mechanisms to recover the funds, which included inviting the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to intervene.

The school was able to recover about N100 million and was subsequently approved by Tetfund to invest the recovered funds in the failed project.

As a result of the school’s transparency and efficient project monitoring, several Tetfund projects have been successfully completed, and the institution is now on the agency’s good books.

Dr Oyedeji noted that the clean-up process was not without resistance, but the support of the management made it possible to rid the system of corruption.
