The League of Patriotic Lawyers has commended the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his leadership in advancing international criminal cooperation and driving reforms within Nigeria’s justice system.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Abubakar Yesufu, the League praised the AGF for overseeing the successful extradition of several fugitive offenders to the United States and the repatriation of a murder suspect to Nigeria — describing these actions as clear demonstrations of the country’s commitment to the rule of law and global justice standards.
According to the group, Fagbemi’s proactive engagement with international partners has improved Nigeria’s reputation for accountability and deepened cooperation in transnational legal and criminal matters.
The League also applauded the AGF for strengthening institutional coordination among key enforcement agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), noting that both institutions have achieved measurable progress under his watch.
It further cited the enactment of the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Regulation Act, 2024 as one of the defining milestones of Fagbemi’s tenure — a law that provides a robust framework for the management and recovery of forfeited assets.
The statement lauded the Attorney-General’s professionalism and commitment to democratic governance, highlighting his contribution to landmark constitutional cases such as those advancing local government autonomy.
Describing Fagbemi as “a reform-driven leader,” the League said his tenure has enhanced public trust in the justice system and boosted Nigeria’s global standing in international legal cooperation.
“These achievements reflect a renewed commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law in Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
