The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has denied a letter purportedly suspending the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, from the homestate of the Chairman.

The executive members of Igyorov Ward in Benue State addressed a letter to the PDP Chairman in Gboko Local Government Area, stating that their signatures were forged and that they had not endorsed Ayu’s suspension.

The exco described the letter as a height of mischief, stating that due process was not observed and that the suspension was not in line with the party’s constitution.

The members have called on PDP supporters to disregard the suspension and have emphasized their faith in Ayu’s leadership.

The Ward’s deputy Chairman, Ortese Helen, and 15 others signed the letter, which raised questions about the development, as it was not contemplated before or after the election.

They have no knowledge of the letter and have not authorized anyone to issue it on their behalf.

They also passed a vote of confidence on Ayu, emphasizing that they lacked the power to suspend a National Chairman, citing Article 57(7) of the PDP Constitution.

The purported signatures on the letter were forged, according to the members, and they urged the public to ignore it.

The content of the letter was contradictory as it dated March 24, 2023, while making reference to the presidential and National Assembly Elections held on March 25, 2023, showing that it was the handiwork of mischief-makers.
