The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspected vandals and recovered a trove of stolen property following a swift operation in Uyo.

In a statement released Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said officers acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the suspects in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, along Ndiya Street, off Aka Road.

“On sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee,” John stated. “One was arrested at the scene, and a second suspect was later picked up around 3:40 p.m. at Ebiare Afiat Lane, also off Aka Road.”

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly provided leads to a third accomplice—allegedly the main buyer of the stolen goods—who is now on the run. The Command says efforts are ongoing to track him down.

A sweep of the surrounding area yielded a significant haul of suspected stolen items. Among the recovered goods were two industrial-sized oxygen cylinders, a SUMEC Fireman 3000 generator, a Fireman 1800 generator, several gas cylinders, a full mechanic’s toolbox, two wheelbarrows, a car wheel, a tile cutter, a solar panel, and a Coca-Cola branded metal stand.

DSP John confirmed that the suspects will be charged once investigations are concluded.

She also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by providing timely, actionable information.

“Our success in this case underscores what’s possible when the community and police work together,” she said.
