Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. counterpart Donald Trump will meet in Alaska on Friday for high-stakes talks aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin announced.
It will be the first meeting between sitting U.S. and Russian presidents since 2021, and comes as Trump seeks to broker an end to Moscow’s nearly three-and-a-half-year offensive.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters the “central topic” would be the resolution of the Ukraine crisis, alongside broader discussions on global security and regional issues.
The summit will open at 11:30 a.m. local time (1930 GMT) with a one-on-one session attended only by interpreters, followed by expanded negotiations over a working breakfast.
Russia’s delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
A joint press conference — the first by U.S. and Russian leaders since Putin and Trump’s 2018 meeting in Helsinki — will follow the talks to present the outcomes of the negotiations.
