The Rivers Peace Initiative (RPI) has called on the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ikot-Ete Ibas (rtd), to ensure a transparent and seamless handover of power to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday as the state returns to democratic governance.

The appeal was made during a peace walk in Port Harcourt under the theme “United for Peace, United for Rivers.” The march brought together civil society leaders, faith groups, professionals, entertainers, and market leaders in a show of unity.

Presenting a solidarity letter at Government House, RPI Convener, Obinna Ebogidi, praised Ibas for maintaining calm during a period of political uncertainty. “History will remember your role in sustaining peace amid tension,” he said. “As your tenure draws to a close, Rivers State stands at a delicate crossroads. Safeguard the gains of peace made under your watch and ensure the handover is seamless and marked by goodwill.”

Ebogidi stressed that the fragile stability must not be undermined by political actors or vested interests, urging stakeholders to build on the reconciliation efforts achieved during the emergency administration.

The group pledged support for Governor Fubara’s leadership, committing to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusive governance as democratic rule is restored.
