Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, expressed shock over the tragic death of Access Bank CEO, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, son, and three others in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border, USA. Governor Fubara described the incident as a monumental loss not only to Rivers State but to Nigeria and the world.

He extended his condolences to the Wigwe family, urging them to find comfort in God’s love and the global sympathy pouring in. The Governor emphasized the profound impact of the losses, expressing the difficulty in understanding the sweeping tragedy that claimed the lives of an accomplished banker, philanthropist, and an illustrious son of Isiokpo in Rivers State.

The Governor highlighted Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s contributions, including his role in the impressive growth of the Access Bank Group and the establishment of Wigwe University in Isiokpo. Despite the tragedy, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of Wigwe University, which must not be allowed to fade away. Dr. Herbert Wigwe was recognized as one of the most outstanding African financial sector leaders and a global figure.
