A CBT centre owner, Mr. Ezechinoso Augustine, resident of Onitsha, Anambra State, has been convicted of registration infractions, concealment, breach of trust, and theft by a Grade One Area Court in Abuja. Ezechinoso allegedly concealed a sensitive registration material provided by JAMB, intending to defraud the board.

JAMB expressed satisfaction with the court’s action and reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice, particularly in a 15-year-old data protection violation case currently before a Lagos Court.

During the trial, Ezechinoso was charged with criminal breach of trust, concealment, registration infractions (cheating), and theft. The prosecution revealed that he had signed for a customised registration material but concealed it, falsely claiming it was non-functional. Despite pleading guilty, his defense cited his Nigerian nationality and lack of intent to cause harm, urging the court for leniency.

However, the presiding judge, Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Kagarko, found Ezechinoso guilty on all counts. He was remanded at Nasarawa correctional centre pending sentencing.

JAMB welcomed the verdict, warning potential violators to desist from unlawful activities. The board emphasized its use of advanced technology to detect infractions and vowed to uphold its integrity by prosecuting offenders.

Additionally, JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to upholding national statutes and ensuring justice in cases of data protection violations. It assured the public, especially the parents of the affected 15-year-old candidate, of due process and justice in the ongoing legal proceedings.
