During the ministerial screening, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, shed light on the decision not to extensively grill former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Instead, Wike was invited to “take a bow and go” after a brief profile reading and an appeal made by Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers).
Akpabio clarified that the Senate possessed Wike’s previous records, as he had previously served as a minister.
Wike had undergone screening when he was nominated as a minister under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
In light of this, Akpabio reasoned that there was no need for extensive questioning during his current nomination.
It is worth noting that Wike had previously held the position of Minister of State for Education during Jonathan’s tenure.
