Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been cleared by the Nigeria Senate for a ministerial role. Wike attended the National Assembly for his ministerial screening, and he was among the first set of nominees screened on Monday.
However, it remains uncertain which ministry Wike will lead, as President Bola Tinubu did not indicate any specific portfolio for the nominees in the earlier forwarded ministerial list to the Senate.
Recall that Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had actively supported the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 February presidential election. Surprisingly, he also worked for Tinubu, the then-APC presidential candidate.
His ministerial appointment is seen as a possible reward for his support to Tinubu during the election.
