As Muslims in Nigeria and around the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, has called upon fellow Nigerians to cast aside religious intolerance and extremism.
In a passionate Sallah message delivered in Abuja on Tuesday, he emphasized the need for citizens of diverse religious backgrounds to unite and contribute to the radical development of Nigeria.
Senator Bamidele cautioned that no nation promoting religious fanaticism could ever achieve prosperity.
Instead, he urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the teachings of sacrifice, faithfulness, steadfastness, obedience, and perseverance exemplified by the life of Prophet Ibrahim.
Highlighting the importance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Senator Bamidele reminded Nigerians of the government’s commitment to making Nigeria a great and prosperous nation.
He warned against fueling religious intolerance, which could undermine the foundation laid by the current administration.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir. As we celebrate, let us remember our duty to create a safe and prosperous country for everyone. This can only be achieved through unity of purpose and the convergence of thoughts and ideas,” Senator Bamidele stated.
He further commended President Tinubu’s efforts in healing ethnic and religious divides, exemplified by his support for Senator Godswill Akpabio’s appointment as Senate President and the inclusion of Christians in key government positions to ensure a balanced representation.
“As the father of the nation, President Tinubu only asks for the collaboration of all Nigerians in realizing his promise to bring prosperity to every doorstep, regardless of religious affiliation,” Senator Bamidele added.
Expressing gratitude for the significant contributions of Nigerian Muslims to national stability, Senator Bamidele encouraged them to continue promoting love, togetherness, and the ideal of peaceful coexistence, as exemplified by the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SWT).
