A devastating three-day downpour has wreaked havoc on Natsinta village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, destroying at least 250 houses and leaving hundreds of residents homeless. The heavy rains, which occurred between August 15th and 17th, have plunged the community into despair, with many losing not only their homes but also essential belongings.
Hon. Mustafa Yusuf, the member representing Jibia Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, visited the affected area on Saturday to assess the extent of the damage. During his visit, he pledged to seek immediate assistance from the state government for the victims. He emphasized the urgent need for shelter, food, and other essential relief materials to support the displaced residents.
Mas’udu Lawal ‘Sarkin Yashi,’ a resident of the area, attributed the disaster to the lack of proper drainage systems. He noted that the blockage of a crucial drainage channel exacerbated the situation, leading to widespread flooding.
Shamsu Hassan, a Councilor from the area, described the chaotic conditions the community now faces, with many residents struggling to find shelter. He highlighted that the disaster has compounded the existing hardships of poverty and food insecurity in the area.
Although there were no reported fatalities, some residents sustained injuries during the incident. The District Head of Dadadara, Alhaji Usman Usman Nagoggo, expressed deep concern over the situation and called for urgent intervention from the government and humanitarian organizations.
The community now awaits critical support to recover from the disaster and rebuild their lives.
