Two Dutch teenagers were found dead in their Istanbul hotel room while their father was taken to hospital in shock, Turkish media reported on Saturday.

The boys, aged 15 and 17, were discovered in their room at a hotel in the Fatih district, near the Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar. Paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed both were dead, broadcaster NTV said.

Their 57-year-old father was rushed to hospital after raising the alarm. He told police that the family had gone to Istanbul’s busy Taksim district for dinner but claimed he had not eaten with his sons, according to Haber Turk.

Hotel employee Mehmet Kirdag said he rushed to the room after hearing the father cry out. “When I knocked at the door and entered, the two sons were dead, one of them in bed, the other on the floor,” he told NTV. “The father was in a state of shock.”

Police have opened an investigation.
