United States international goalkeeper Zack Steffen has signed a three-year contract with Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids after departing Manchester City. Serving as a backup at City, Steffen, 28, made 21 appearances in four seasons, mostly in cup competitions, and had loan spells with Fortuna Dusseldorf in Germany and Middlesbrough in the English Championship.
With 29 appearances for the United States, Steffen eyes regular playing time at home to enhance his chances for a starting spot in the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Rapids head coach Chris Armas expressed excitement about Steffen’s arrival, praising his quality, leadership, and winning mentality.
Steffen gained recognition in MLS with Columbus Crew, winning the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2018. The Rapids, finishing 28th in the overall standings last year, anticipate Steffen’s contributions under Armas, who took over as head coach in November.
