About 150 people were evacuated from Guy’s Hospital in Southwark on Thursday morning after reports of a chemical incident, the London Fire Brigade said.

Firefighters were called at 8:49 a.m. (0749 GMT) and deployed two fire engines, two rescue units, a command vehicle and hazardous materials specialists. Crews worked to ventilate the affected areas.

Those evacuated were on the basement and ground floors of the hospital, a major 400-bed elective care centre specialising in cancer, kidney, urology, dental, ENT and orthopaedic services.

The cause of the incident has not been disclosed, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
