Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has said his political future in the 2027 general elections rests solely in the hands of God.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Shura Council, the state’s apex advisory body, Yusuf stressed that leadership is determined by divine will and not by human design.
“In 2023, many wrote me off, but divine providence made me governor,” he said in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature. “I faced the most difficult challenges of my life after the elections, but through those trials and tears, I remain committed to serving Kano. I am still here because of God, not any individual.”
The governor added that true leadership lies in delivering projects that improve lives rather than pursuing personal political gains.
“Whether I seek re-election or not, my duty is to keep delivering meaningful programmes for the people,” he said. “I know one day I will vacate this seat, and that is why I am doing my best now to transform Kano physically, socially and morally.”
Yusuf also expressed concern over youth involvement in drug abuse and thuggery, announcing plans for a reformatory institution for women to rehabilitate victims of addiction and other social challenges.
He called on religious leaders to support the government’s reform agenda and help guide young people towards positive values.
